Shake It

Whee, pokemons!

.....I know. I'm so eloquent. But hey, I wasn't the one shaking her thang at lunch today singing about 'shaking it like a polaroid picture'. That would be the above: my friend Kaye. Or.. The best likeness of her I can illustrate. If you know my ability to draw likenesses, you already know that don't mean much.

Oh, and speaking of things inspired by Kaye: that booty-shaking move is pulled from real life, too. For those of you looking for new ways to violate the pokemon you're 'taking on a stroll', clipping it to your back pocket and shaking your bum will make the ticker go up. I saw this in practice.


...So, anyone lost? It's okay; that just means you're not poke-awesome like I am. The little doohickey getting all shook up here is called a pokewalker. It's the cross between a pokemon game, a pedometer, and a tamagachi. Or, that's the closest thing I can come up with. It comes standard with the recently released DS games HeartGold and SoulSilver. Essentially, you can load one of your own pokemon into the little thing, and it'll go on a magical journey with you as you walk, accumulating points, finding items, and generally being freaking adorable. It can even gain experience this way.

....Now, telling poke-nuts that they have a new way to level grind that doesn't require them to ACTUALLY play the game leads to the inevitable question: 'Would it count if we attach these suckers to the blades of a moving fan and let them spin for a few hours?' ...You think I kid, but that question was asked today. I HEARD it. Everyone's come down with parkinsons since they got their hands on these things, shaking any limbs they're attached to vigorously to try and power level. It's a little sad, knowing that by the end of the week, my shinny little pokewalker will be the only one not covered in dents and dings.

So please, people: cool your jets! The pokewalker is a tool that helps our poke-starved little imaginations pretend the digital pixels we love and coddle so are actually real! And, if you DID have a legitimate pokeball holding a living, breathing pokemon in your hands, would you really shake the living bejeezus out of it?

.... .... .....What do you mean, hell yes?! You sick bastards. Hand over that poor, dizzy pokemon!



....Back to serious world now, I just felt drawing a dancing Kaye would just about make my day. Which it did. I hope it makes yours too. And, as usual, cookies for comments.
