So Scandalous

....You know, I promised myself I wouldn't put too much work into this. Why can't I trust myself?

So, er, this started as a stupid idea, maybe a month ago. I was sitting in on rehearsal, as usual(stage managing before tech week: duller than dirt), when I felt like drawing. And, seeing as I'd been watching a bunch of people pretend they were in the 18th century three nights a week, and constructing period costumes for them to wear during the day... I had the 18th century on the brain. Then, the actors with the practice hoop skirts always gave me the giggles, because they didn't know how to behave in them. Every once in a while, they'd get frustrated and pick the skirt up to sit properly or something, and I'd be able to see up to their knees.

And silly me, all I could think was 'my, what scandalous harlots!' (For a lady to so much as show off the buckles of her shoes in that time was quite racy, keep in mind) And then I drew this, giggling to myself like an idiot.

Then I finally got my scanner and photoshop back into working for me, and decided this would be a fun piece with which to reacquaint myself with digital coloring and shading. And then I went overboard playing with things.

Really, this was just one big fun experiment. It started with the crosshatching, then I thought I'd try coloring the lineart for once, then I fiddled with overlaying patterns on the fabric... Then, just to be a bitch to myself, I played with the brush settings and made up what I pretend is a handpainted-looking background.

And you know what? ....I like it. I'm definitely coloring the lineart again, at least. ....Yay growth!

So, er.. As usual, cookies and much love in exchange for your comments and general attentions unto my deviation.

The use of patern on the fabric is efective, I ahve to say. The darker fabric has a nice weight to it, it feel much thiner than the rest of it. I't good to be able to differenciate fabrics.
